Advanced Stories of Recovery
Last night, I met with a group who have been eliminating sugars and flours for several years…here are their stories.
I joined the food plan at Easter. I had prayed for years for God to help me lose weight. Then Joan came to talk to us at our church. I had no problem giving up flour and sugar. I lost 30 lbs but the main benefits were clarity of mind, not being depressed any more, better attitude with my friends and family and I was able to get off of several of the medications I was on. Janet Horsch
Since I have been on the food plan, I have enjoyed buying clothes several sizes smaller. What fun to go shopping now! JP
I had been taking Lipitor daily for high cholesterol - after being on the program about a year - I asked my doctor if I could stop taking the medication - she agreed and so far so good. JP
Being a part of a congregation in which a core group is following the food program has been a tremendous help. The suport we receive from one another is great. Even friends who do not wish to be on the food plan seem to respect those of us who are.
I was able to walk into a Chocolate Groumet Store and enjoy the aroma without craving a bite of anything. I enjoyed looking at the beautiful presentation, but I realized how much I had changed. Robbie Wallace
I went to my dr. & said I wanted to get off my cholesterol meds, since Zetia had been in the new as being not as effective as had been thought. He said, ‘”Why? It won’t hurt you” ____ uh ____ then why the warning label?
Sugar triggers the pain of arthritis - at least for me. The food plan provides balanced food that eliminates sugar in an appetizing way.
Early in 2007, I had difficulty swallowing. My family physician, observed an enlarged thyroid gland. I was on medication for several months, had periodic blood work. Perhaps partly due to the food plan, my thyroid size returned to normal and has been that way for more than six months. Over this time and at the present and with my doctor’s approval, I am taking no thyroid medication and have no thyroid problems. Carlton Suiter
My grandmother, younger brother & father all had diabetes - my sugar was getting higher before going onto the food plan. After going onto the food plan, my sugar level has gone down and stayed down. Anon.
I have had success losing weight on the food plan and have lowered my blood pressure as well, and it has stayed down. I do still take my blood pressure medicine but after my next visit with the Dr., I may be able to be free of it. Anon.
I cook my lunch at work and they’re asking me to cook their lunch also (they said they’d even buy) I feed 3 people breakfast each day so they’ll eat healthy instead of coke and potato chips. Susan Q.
My husband is adament about “not” eating the food on this diet. However, he now eats fried fish (which I coat w/ oatbran sauteed in olive oil) and spinach salad w/ lemon juice. It’s just how I feed him and he likes it. He doesn’t know he’s eating the food plan.
Today is Tuesday. On Sunday, I was telling Joan how tired I have been getting after my lunch at the school where I work. (I ate school lunches.) On Monday, I ate lunch which I brought from home - pork chop, green beans and strawberries. Guess what? No tiredness after lunch.
Last summer was my first time to hear Joan’s explanation of effects of sugar on my body - how sugar triggers insulin which can wear out insulin functions. I saw how diabetes happens. Since my husband has diabetes, I was prompted to cook more healthy foods. I know he is now eating foods which are not contributing to his diabetes even though he is still on medication. The side effect for me was loss of 25 pounds and ability to wear clothes which I had outgrown.
I think these stories illustrate the fun of the food plan. No one can imagine how many different, exciting benefits will come from eliminating sugars and flours from the diet. It’s part of the adventure! Joan Ifland

I used to collapse on the sofa at night. Now I have surprising energy all day and in the evening. I used to be extremely disorganized. I still am, but now I can stick to a project without getting sidetracked long enough to make a dent. I use to eat out of nervous frustration – good foods but too much- never felt satisfied. That feeling is gone and I no longer have the cravings.

Lost 5 lbs. (an all-time low at 225 lbs.) I was already not eating C12H22O11 – sugar, but I was eating wheat & was stuck at 230 lbs for 3 months. I have more stamina. I AM a rocket scientist by profession. This works and it’s not rocket science. It’s easy.
